Costume Contest, Walk-on and Skit Performance Rules

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT SHOW UP TO HAVE THEIR COSTUME JUDGED , FORFEITS ANY AND ALL RIGHTS TO WIN AN AWARD PERTAINING TO CRAFTSMANSHIP IN THE COSTUME CONTEST.

To participate in the Costume Contest, you must have a badge to A&G Ohio 2013.All participants must read and agree to the A&G Ohio weapon and costume policy.Commissioned costumes are allowed to enter the contest, but are not subject to win best of show award unless the creator of the costume is present during judging. You must give credit to the creator.Maximum number of members for a group is 6. (This applies for costume judging and not walk-ons)

Documentation/Costume References
Judges may or may not know who you are trying to be. Please bring documentation. Best documentation is printed material with multiple angles (front/back preferably), and is of good quality. You may bring in a laptop, but we will not provide power outlets. It is NOT required to bring documentation; however, you may not get the best score possible by not providing documentation.

COSTUME JUDGING
(Note: If you are doing a walk on for the show, please make sure to advise accordingly at the time of judging)
Costumes will be judged based on a scale of 1-5 in the categories of: technicality, artistry, and presentation. All of the categories are broke down below.

CRAFTSMANSHIP:
Applies for Best of show, Damn, that’s a good Costume! Making it work, Derek Sears and Young guns (under 16) award

Technicality & Artistry

Fits participant correctly; even seams that lay flat; visibly hemmed and not left with raw edge; suitable fabric and materials choice to achieve desired effect; no loose threads; Attention to detail; decorative handwork (e.g. embroidery, beading, any embellishments); special effects (e.g. floating, glowing, electrical, transforming parts) and materials (metal) simulated. Wigs crafted/styled safely and durably.

Presentation

How the costume looks from a distance, how it drapes when standing, flows when moving. Accurately resembles the character being portrayed (if references provided) and includes multiple aspects of costume: wig/hair, makeup, props.

WEAPON AND PROP JUDGING:

Best prop award. Do not need to be in costume to be judged for this category.
All weapons must fit into the weapons policy set forth by the convention. Weapons/Props will be judged on material difficulty, finishing, decoration, special effects, durability and proper portrayal of the weapon being judgedAlteration based costumes:

Presentation

Materials

Materials are at least 75% purchased from a store and not made from scratch. Type of materials used and condition of fabric.

Alterations

How the alterations on the costumes look, stitching is neat, no loose threading and any added materials to achieve characters look. (Ie. Paint, beads, etc)

Must be signed up at judging event.
Meet inside main events 30 minutes prior to the start of the show.

Doppelganger award: Based solely on walk on performance
The way the costume is presented during your walk-on. Poses are true to life and the personality of the character being portrayed is perfect.
